Do I have to be good at singing?

No. We are a fiercely non-audition choir. In fact one of our mottos is “there’s no wrong notes, it’s just extra harmony”. Our goal is to have fun and build community; and we do that through singing together. As long as you’re LGBTQIA+, and you love singing, we’re the choir for you!

I can't read music, is that a problem?

You don’t need to be able to read music to join the choir. Some of our members do use sheet music, others learn the words and melodies through our rehearsals until they feel confident enough. Don’t worry - you’ll pick it up very quickly.

I'm worried about what part to sing and my gender.

For most songs we sing, we split up into parts. However we don’t split into traditional voice parts like soprano, alto, tenor or bass. You’re free to sing any part, at any part of your range; whatever brings you most joy!

We pride ourselves on welcoming anyone who might feel excluded from other choirs because their voices don’t fit cisnormative expectations of what men and women should sound like. And for anyone who is vocally changing and wants the safety to explore their new voice, this is absolutely the place for you!How often are rehearsals?

We rehearse every Monday, 7- 8.30 pm during term time only.

Outside of term time, we sometimes arrange social meet-ups.

Where are rehearsals?

Our Monday rehearsals take place at the United Reform Church at Downing Street.

It is a welcoming space, with accessible, unisex toilets, seating opportunities and bicycle parking across the road.

The nearest parking opportunities are at the Grand Arcade parking garage or for free parking, on Queen’s Road.

Does it cost to join the Choir?

We ask our members for a termly fee to cover the cost of the room hire and to e.g. purchase new music to sing together.

We can talk with you about the exact cost when you join, as we would not want financial commitments to get in the way of singing and joining our choir! You are also not expected to pay anything when you first join us.

How do I join?

You can either simply come along on a Monday during term time, or get in touch with us beforehand so we can make sure to welcome you! We are a very friendly, welcoming group and we would love to have you!
